Product Description
Palatine Professional satin paint is a decorative and protective top coat for interior and exterior use on wood or metal. If you’re looking for a contemporary alternative to a high gloss finish, then satin is a good choice. A satin finish means your surface will reflect some light, but won’t have the high ‘mirror’ finish of gloss.
With its high opacity, Palatine Professional satin finish paint provides great looking surface which is touch dry in 3 hours. Because you can use it on both woodwork and metal, it’s great for coordinating different surfaces giving quick drying satin finish paint to skirting boards, architraves, doors, window frames, radiators and more.

If a matt finish is what you’re after, then Palatine Professional Flat Oil Enamel is a great choice. For a high gloss finish try Truglos Professional Gloss.
Do I need a primer? We usually recommend a primer unless you’re painting over a previously painted surface; in which case, lightly sand before painting.
Please note: The colours shown here are only a guide. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours. In addition, everyone sees these colours differently.

Coverage / Drying Times:
Surface Dry: 3 hours
Hard Dry: 8 hours
Overcoat: after 24 hours
Keep coated areas dry for a minimum of 24 hours following application.
Please note, drying times will be extended at low temperatures. Do not apply when ambient temperature falls below 10ºC
Theoretical Coverage: 12 – 14m² per litre.
(Coverage rate can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application.)
Preparation:
Proper surface preparation is essential for the success of any protective coating system. Before you begin ensure the area is free from any dust, oil, grease, old coatings and surface contaminants.
The preparation of steelwork prior to painting generally falls into two main areas; that of degreasing and the removal of rust and scale.
All surfaces to be painted should be clean, dry and free from loose and flaking material, dust, grease and millscale, etc.
Prime bare surfaces with Palatine Anti-Corrosive Metal Primer or Palatine All Purpose Primer / Undercoat in accordance with our recommendations
For non-ferrous metals use Palatine Fast Dry etching primer.
Rub down previously gloss painted surfaces with fine waterproof abrasive paper and rinse thoroughly.
Application:
Best results are obtained in warm (minimum 10°C), dry conditions.
Mix thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes using a drill stirrer. A wooden batten at least 25mm wide is also ideal.
Apply an even coat using a brush, short to medium pile roller on smooth surfaces and a long pile roller on textured surfaces
For spray application by either airless or conventional spray a dilution ration of no more than 10% is recommended with Palatine White Spirit by volume applying thin coats allowing each one to dry before applying subsequent coats.
Once dried, a second coat can be applied at full strength. This will prolong the life and performance of the coating.
Thinning and Cleaning: Use Palatine White Spirit.
If using more than one batch of the same colour, intermix before use

For ever I have used main stream paints from the usual DIY stores and spent every year repainting as they flaked and wore away.
I thought that oil / solvent based paints were messy, difficult to use and an unnecessary expense.
However I have recently used professional painters both at home and work and they all say use oil based paints outside for durability and steer clear of the big brand names.
So I started to look around and realised how difficult it was to find solvent paints in the big DIY chains.
Then I found Palatine Paints online.
Their website explains very clearly, and more importantly, simply what paints I needed.
The delivery was fast and I even got a call to say their website price for delivery had been set too high and refunded me some of what I had paid. A very nice bonus since I had obviously been happy to pay what it said!!
The paints are easy to use, very forgiving of my amateur brush strokes, quick drying and leave an even professional looking finish.
The colour is just what I was looking for and much cheaper than what my ‘specialist paint store’ locally was going to charge me to order some other brand in.
Granted I haven’t tested over a period of time, but so far I have been very impressed and will definitely be ordering again.

This is top quality paint, but the RAL 6021 is not RAL 6021. It is every so little bit too pale. I’ve had other batches of RAL 6021 from other sources which have been bang on in colour, but not as nice to work with as this lovely alkyd. You might want to revisit the mix.
