Suitable for rough, sawn or smooth timber, but not suitable for garden furniture unless over sealed. Harmless to plants and pets when dry.

Barrettine Wood Protective Treatment is also perfect for treating for many outdoor treated timber structures like sheds, summerhouse and gazebos. The treatment seals wood to give excellent water repellency and is oil based for deeper penetration. The translucent finish allows visibility of the natural grain whilst providing a colour for effect (also available in clear). Seven colours available, see swatch below. (Not ideal for decking or garden furniture structures as rub resistance may not be sufficient).
Coverage SQM: 6 m² per litre
Application: Apply by brush, dip, roller or solvent compatible low-pressure sprayer only (not high-pressure & ensure weather conditions dry and still)
Drying time: 24-48 hours under normal conditions.
Best Results: Recommend 2-3 applications/coats
Can be sprayed with a traditional pump action Garden style sprayer with viton seals. Protective treatment can also be sprayed using an airless sprayer (Wagner or Graco type) ideally using a minimum 1mm flat fan tip nozzle (9 – 11 thou tip). The sprayer must be thoroughly cleaned after application with white spirit and then oiled to protect the tip and moving parts (as per manufacturer’s instructions)
Ensure wood to be treated is dry, free from dirt and repellent coatings such as paint or varnish. (remove and sand down as required).
Recommend using a biocidal wash such as Barrettine Knockout Mould and Mildew prior to treatment.
The final colour finish can vary considerably due to the age, type & condition of the timber being treated. We always recommend carrying out a test area first in an inconspicuous area to make sure you are happy with the final dried colour.

Excellent preserver, Can apply with sprayer pump. Colour is fantastic, best colour I have seen in cedar red. Gives it a lovely look.
I originally applied with a cloth which gives an excellent look but fades as wood soaks up the paint deep within after a couple of weeks. So applied with a brush which gives it a darker shade but fades to the wanted colour after two weeks. As I had large amounts of wood to treat so I used a spray pump which speeds up the job and applies a heavy coat, one application is enough with this technique. Water/Rain just sits on the wood after preserver applied.
Palatine sent out the paint in good time, no fuss and competitive price. Looking to buy another two tins if the price is right!!!

Barrettine’s Wood Protective Treatment is an excellent product that seems to have better penetration on dried out, sun-bleached wood (that I have neglected longer than I should) than the more expensive Premium Wood Preservative that I have previously used, although its colour is less golden and rather darker. It is very easy to apply and has good coverage. and I have found that it gives good protection for at least 2 years.
I must also commend Palatine Paints for their excellent personal telephone service. Calls answered immediately, then put through to one of a team of very friendly people who go out of their way to be helpful.
